What are the legal requirements for working as an overseas Healthcare PROFESSIONALS in the UK?

You can currently work in UK as a registered Healthcare worker with the following requirements:

Non EU citizens: We will need to apply for a certificate of sponsorship for you to be able to work in HEALTHCARE SECTOR. It can be quite a lengthy process but we have experience of making these types of applications. Overseas Healthcare Professionals' requesting for accommodation have got high priority but please, let us know if you require this service as soon as possible so the necessary arrangements can be done before you arrive in the UK.

You must meet all of the following requirements to be eligible for a Healthcare Professionals visa:

  • You’re a qualified doctor, nurse, healthcare professionals or adult socialcare professionals
  • You’ll be working for a UK health and care sector employer that is approved by the Home Office
  • You’ll be paid the ‘going rate’ for the type of work you’ll be doing

The Health and Care visa is designed to encourage healthcare professionals from around the world to come to work in the UK health sector.

Qualified doctors, nurses and allied health professionals who are registered with any reconised medical organized body in the country of their residence, will be able to apply for the Health and Care visa.

You will have to book a test with one of the approved for SELT:

  • IELTS SELT Consortium: ‘IELTS for UKVI’ or ‘IELTS Life Skills’
  • LanguageCert: ‘LanguageCert International ESOL SELT’
  • Pearson: ‘PTE Academic UKVI’ or ‘PTE Home’
  • PSI Services: ‘Skills for English UKVI’

How much it costs and Money to support yourself

When you apply for a Healthcare Worker visa, you’ll need to have enough money to:

  • Pay for VISA application fee
  • To support yourself when you arrive in the UK - What you’ll usually need to have available in your BANK ACCOUNT will advise you once the job offer is in place, as the cost of living may vary at the time.

You will need to have the money available in your bank account for at least 28 days in a row. The days 28 must be within 31 days of applying for the visa

You’ll be told how much you need to pay for the VISA when you apply.

The UK Visa & Immigration team (UKVI) prioritises Healthcare Professional visa applications, within 3 weeks of the applicant having provided their biometric.

It is of vital importance that the correct documents and evidence to support your eligibility is correctly submitted in order for a successful application.

Professional Registration

If you are applying for a post that requires professional registration, you will need to register with the appropriate regulatory body. If you are registered in your home country, but do not have UK registration, some NHS employers may be able to help with this
